There is only one opportunity for a first impression. District 25 Awards Banquet “Celebrating the Inspirations” exceeded my expectations as a first-time attendee. From the very beginning, although simple, the elegant decorations reflected the theme, created a certain ambiance of relaxation and warmth; and emitted a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere in the room. Even so, there was a spirit of joy and exhilaration.
After the welcome from one of the Awards Banquet Co-Chairs, Donna Fossmeyer, we were served dinner. During dinner, there was an inspiring PowerPoint with a wealth of pictures displaying the district’s 2021-2022 journey. I shared a table with Toastmasters from Smiling Stars, Something to Talk About, and Texas Talkers! This was an ideal opportunity to collaborate efforts toward the Nemileta Nine!
Immediately after dinner, the distribution of awards began. I was amazed by the number of awards presented! Toastmasters were honored and recognized for everything from membership, marketing, mentoring, and leading, to succeeding, excelling, inspiring, motivating, and compelling others to do the same! I was inspired by those who were awarded and rewarded simply because they love to serve. Many who gave remarks after receiving their awards expressed being grateful for the opportunity to serve.
One of the highlights for me was the parting speech from our 2021-2022 District Director, Ninfa Flewitt. Her message was heartfelt as she recognized and thanked her team. The PowerPoint depicting Ninfa’s journey was touching as it highlighted her commitment while she served and continues to serve. Ninfa was even too nice to be “roasted!” Marcheta Gardner and Emily Murray could not think of anything injurious or immoral to shame Ninfa or to at least make her blush!
Another high point was witnessing 13 Past District Governors and Directors in attendance at the Banquet. Awe Inspiring to see such wisdom and experience in one room! I felt honored and blessed to be a part of the one and only District 25!!!! To top everything else, we were given a Souvenir “Hall of Fame” publication to keep for future reflections. To say the least, I was thoroughly impressed and inspired. This was my first time, but certainly not my last. Who will join me next year for the 2022-2023 “Empowering Your Legacy Awards Banquet?”
