by Ninfa Flewitt DTM Past District Director
Gary Miller, DTM, proud member of the Burleson Toastmasters Club since 2011 and member of Toastmasters International since 1993, died Thursday, May 18, after an illness.
Gary was an encourager known for his texts of affirmation to club members after a speech. He was in Toastmasters to help other achieve their goals and only decided to complete his DTM after an audit of his education and leadership roles in 2019. He earned his Distinguished Toastmaster Award in 2021, having served District 25 as an Area Director and a Club Coach to Top Notch Toastmasters.
Gary served the Burleson Toastmasters as a club officer for 10 years, serving as Club President 5 times and Club Treasurer 5 times. Gary was known for his encouraging nature, his integrity, and his great knowledge of Toastmasters and the real-world application of the things learned through membership. He was willing to embrace change and encouraged others to do the same, enrolling in Pathways and joining virtual meetings when many long time Toastmasters chose not to. Burleson Toastmasters could count on Gary to fill any role and do so with a smile.
Gary will be greatly missed by his club and those who knew him.
A memorial service for Gary will be held 12:30 pm Tuesday, May 30, at Open Door Church 301 S. Dobson St Burleson, TX.
